JOHNNIE BEEN GOOD?
JOHNNIE BEEN GOOD? by Greg Palast [Boston] The millionaires are dancing now. The balloons are falling on John Kerry, John Edwards and their nuclear families.
They're playing 'Johnnie B. Goode' over the loudspeakers. Democrats are hopping up and down like JFK never went to Dallas; like Bill Clinton didn't blow it for us; like there's a chance to bring the boys home alive; like America can crawl out of Dick Cheney's bunker and look at the sun again.
But has Johnnie Kerry been good so far?
He told us tonight about some poor bastard in Ohio whose job evaporated when his company unbolted the equipment and sent it south. Hey, Johnnie, didn't you vote for NAFTA?
I applauded when he said the White House should stop treating teachers and school kids like fugitives from justice and help them out. But, Johnnie, didn't you vote for George Bush's 'No Child's Behind Left' assault on public education?
Then there was that little story meant to show us all he is a Man for All Seasons, above party politics. 'I broke with many in my own party,' he said, 'to vote for a balanced budget, because I thought it was the right thing to do.' No, John, it wasn't. It was craven political cowardice, going with the anti-government hysteria that put a knife into the heart of the programs you cried over tonight.
He told us the sad story of the poor homeless guy huddled in front of the White House. Is this the same John Kerry that voted for Clinton's welfare 'reform'? That put a five-year limit on food stamps, making child starvation the law of the USA. At least Ronald Reagan offered ketchup as a vegetable.
Kerry made good use of the cash he saved on feeding the poor. 'I fought to put a 100,000 co"

Killing Time Million Mom March: Dismal Failure: "Million Mom March: Dismal Failure on May 9, 2004
The Gun Grabbing group entitled, The Million Mom March', planned a morning interfaith service and rally on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol today. The theme of the anti-gun movement this year is the Halt the Assault Tour'. The groups is actively trying to lobby President Bush and Congress to save the assault weapons ban.
The March this year, held on a beautfiul sunny day, in Washington was sparcely attended. One WTOP radio newsman stated that at one point only,'80 people present and half appear to be organizers'. This appears to be less than the 100 supporters attended in 2001, as reported by CNN. "

Nevada Journal: Motor Voter: A Dismal Failure: "A second finding of Congress held that, in our very mobile society today, the need to register anew after a person moves has a negative effect on registration and therefore on turnout. Thus, the second plank of the act requires the states to set up a system of registration at state motor vehicle departments, where people who move must go virtually always. Additionally, the NVRA requires most states to implement mail registration. Mail registration is the avenue through which much fraud can take place, since there is little control over who is allowed to register in this manner."
Nevada Journal: Motor Voter: A Dismal Failure: "Liberals had concluded that poor people and minorities, if they voted, would likely support liberal candidates. Thus the first plank of the National Voter Registration Act was prepared by an official finding of Congress that discriminatory and unfair registration laws and procedures can have a direct and damaging effect on voter participation in elections for federal office, disproportionately harming voter participation by various groups, including racial minorities. To get poor people and minorities to registerand thus voting in accord with the earlier discussed assumptionthe act mandated that registration must be allowed at federal, state, and local social-welfare agencies."
Nevada Journal: Motor Voter: A Dismal Failure: "Just what would be the policies, however? The shape that the Motor Voter law took was largely determined by two other concerns. The first concern was that poor people voted in disproportionately low numbers compared to their portion of the population. Further, a contingent of would-be policy makers suggested that registration requirements were largely to blame for the low turnout. The main intent of the Motor Voter law was to increase the dismally low turnout rates of Americans, particularly among the poor and minorities."
Nevada Journal: Motor Voter: A Dismal Failure: "Motor Voter had a number of assumptions at its core. Generally, however, the assumptions are based on faulty reasoning and, frequently, agenda-driven scientific studies. Somewhere, at sometime, someone realized that there was a high level of voting by people who are registered to vote. In addition, some individuals came to the conclusion that registration was a very difficult process, perhaps even more difficult than voting on election day. Since the goal was to increase voter turnout, the idea arose that if everyone were registered, then everyone would vote. These two assumptions led to a belief in the need for policies that require the process of voter registration to be extremely simple."
Nevada Journal: Motor Voter: A Dismal Failure: "he Progressive movements attempts in the 1870s and beyond to reform political party domination of elections and accompanying fraud led to government control of the voting process. Voter registration, officially printed ballots and secret ballots were attempts to rid elections of fraud and coercion. Over 100 years later, when the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) was passed in 1993, control of fraud was a far distant secondary concern. The actalso called Motor Votermay even have turned back the clock, reintroducing fraud to American elections."
The health insurance disaster continues: "current headlines show, even when a group of politicians promise their best (and actually mean it!), the result can still be disastrous. Two years later, Shawn Hegdal still has no health insurance.
Neither do 44 million other Americans, and the problem is getting much, much worse. The current proposals on the table simply won't work, and there's far too much at stake from insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, doctors' groups and hospitals to actually conduct real reform. Because real reform would restructure health care from scratch and eliminate the 70% waste that keeps a lot of people employed. "
